Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen and is performed to tighten muscles of the abdominal wall, usually after childbirth or massive weight loss. It is often performed, with or without liposuction. Sometimes there is a need to reposition the belly button. This procedure will dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen.
The procedure takes from 2 to 3 ½ hours depending if mini or full tummy tuck is required. This can only be performed in theatre under general anaesthetic and often involves one night’s stay in hospital.
Recovery for this procedure is 2 to 3 weeks. Normal activities and exercise can be commenced between six and eight weeks.
