A lipoma is a slow-growing, fatty lump, encased in a fibrous capsule, that is most often situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. A lipoma, which feels spongy and usually isn’t tender, moves readily with slight finger pressure. Some people have more than one lipoma. These are commonly found on the arms, torso, back and neck.

A lipoma isn’t cancer and usually is harmless. Treatment generally isn’t necessary, but if the lipoma bothers you, is painful or is growing, you may want to have it surgically removed. Most often this can be performed in the doctors rooms as a day case. If multiple lipoma are removed at the same time, it is preferable to have this performed in hospital also as a day case
