How do I get started?
LaserTouch personnel will be happy to discuss the procedure with you. Please feel free to make an appointment for a private consultation to discuss your specific needs.
How does the Laser remove hair?
The Laser is pulsed (turned on) for a few milliseconds, emitting a beam of light on to the skin. The light energy passes harmlessly through the skin, but is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle and hair shaft. By absorbing this laser energy, the hair follicles are disabled and the hair falls out.
Who can be treated?
State of the art lasers used by LaserTouch make it possible for all skin types in both women and men to be treated. Since melanin is what the laser targets, hair has to be pigmented in order to be effectively treated. Therefore, white, blond and red hair is difficult to treat. Dark hair on a light textured skin is the perfect combination.
What areas can be treated?
There are no restrictions. Lasers can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms and back. Sensitive areas like the chest, nipples and bikini line can also be treated.
Is the process painful?
Most patients describe it as a slight uncomfortable pinching or stinging sensation when the pulse of laser is delivered. No local anaesthesia or pain medication is typically required, however some patients may prefer to use a topical anaesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
How safe is the procedure?
Laser hair removal is safe. Slight redness and swelling of the treated area occurs in many patients but lasts for about 24 hours. Blisters, hyper and hypo pigmentation can very rarely occur, but are transient and eventually subside.
How many treatments do I need?
The laser is effective on hair follicles in the active growth phase, but not all hairs are actively growing at the same time. Since hairs enter the active growth phase at different times, more than one treatment is necessary to disable all hair follicles in a given area. Most areas require 6-8 treatments to achieve the desired result.
What happens after the treatment?
Soothing creams are applied to reduce the redness and swelling. Sunblock creams should be used over the treated areas and limiting sun exposure is always a good idea. Six to eight weeks after the treatment, new hair will start to show and a new treatment can be done. In between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but shaving is allowed. An intact hair is required to carry the laser energy to the hair follicle.
How long do the results last?
Lasers offer permanent hair reduction. In other words, one can expect that the results achieved after the completion of treatments to be long lasting. LaserTouch is proud to offer its clients the best in laser hair removal technology.
How does Laser compare with other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that have to be repeated frequently. Electrolysis on the other hand can eventually offer long lasting results, but it is a painful, invasive, and tedious process. Lasers can treat hundreds of hair follicles at a time and therefore treat an area in seconds when it would take electrolysis an hour or so.
