Plastic surgery can replace tissue and shape following a mastectomy. Breast reconstruction is achieved with prosthesis and various ‘flaps’ where skin and muscle is used to make a new breast. The nipple is reconstructed 6 – 12 weeks later using the skin of the newly created breast. A few weeks later the new nipple and areola is tattooed to match the opposite breast.
